Lenin famously said, “There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen” The world has just experienced, and perhaps is continuing to experience, those weeks where decades happen.
It seems to me that a lot of tinder has been accumulating in Europe. I have been expecting something to kick things off but so far it seems that Ireland, the UK, Germany, and France have built up strong enough deep states of their own to keep it mostly suppressed up until now.
Perhaps an economic crisis is not too far off that will push things over the edge, although it's hard from the US to know how prepared the Euro right is for this.
Erdogan has created a lot of problems for himself...Already having 3-5 million Syrian refugees, he faces the prospect of many more...Europe is starting to halt 3d world immigration, so there's no convenient place to dump them...Syria is likely to turn into Libya...Meanwhile, Assad is resuming his actual profession of Opthalmology...and has no worries...
Ones Turkey is the last place they will go. He helped cleanse Armenians out of Azurbizian n didn’t get any refugees from there. He also gets free rein to take care of the Kurds who just got screwed (again) by the U.S.
Turkey had arrangements with Israel for security technology transfers. I am sure he must be expecting something in return for eliminating another front line state.
Last month Bibi threatened Assad with “fire” for allowing passage to Iranian fighters passage to Lebanon. Turkey provided logistical support while US and IDF provided air support.
With Russia stretched in Ukraine and US in position to block reinforcements Assad was essentially defenseless. The soldiers in the SAA knew the stood no chance and melted away. The Ziocons never had a better chance so they took it.
Now Israel can invade Lebanon which can’t be supported by Iran. They can steal more land from Syria and Russia has essentially been kicked out of the Mediterranean.

He will send the refugees he has back to Syria and for the new one

No way this is an “unexpected result”.
