What was most striking about Trump’s remarks in Saudi Arabia was his acknowledgement of the failures of 21st century Neoconservative policies in the region. Ideas of nation building and democracy at the barrel of a gun were some of the worst self-inflicted injuries to American credibility. To see an American president point this out, to the regional powers no less, is something I did not expect to see in this lifetime.

There's a whole lot to parse in his statement but I agree, it is definitely a challenge to the old status quo and can, if he's serious, have domestic repercussions as well. He's basically acknowledging that the Palestinians and the Lebanese have rights to their lands in a very quiet way, and warning King Bagel that he will not dictate America's foreign policy to the President any more than the Ukrainian Dwarf did.

It appears they are, and those that were not like Sade Fan Club member Waltz were kicked out of the inner circle. He's out being a Smooth Operator in a useless, powerless and irrelevant position now.

Qatar’s gift of the new airliner may be a sign of accommodation. As the Saudis have long said, the Qataris have been the main bankrollers of dissident opponents to the existing order. That jet may be how they ante up to the new order of things.

Compared to it an all-expense paid trip to visit the Wailing Wall or Vad Yashem just doesn’t measure up.
