The late polemicist Christopher Hitchens famous quipped, "Yes, I have free will; I have no choice but to have it." He was addressing the paradoxical nature of free will in that even if it were an illusion, and we could somehow figure that out, we would be forced to carry on as if it were real.
Z's work ethic put nearly all of us to shame. He had his main site and this 'green door' site, both updated on a steady basis, on top of his day job. Truly the 'hardest working man on the dissident right'. And even if one day you disagreed with his point of view or felt he got too deep in the philosophical (or his home!) weeds, the next day's piece would pull you back in.
There will now be no completed book from Z-man to preserve his thoughts. Hopefully smart people are preserving the best of his site for posterity. I think his legacy is larger than any of us (or him) knew. Now it is up to us to carry it on..
I don’t get it, Z lived alone in the woods of West Virginia, he did a show late Wednesday and he has said he typically writes his posts in the morning, if he died of natural causes who called it in? His cats? And why would ramzpaul be the person notified by emergency services? Praying this is all a bad joke.
Heartbroken. Feels as if I’ve lost a personal friend. I hope that the work he posted here and on his blog can be preserved somehow. Don’t know how that works. So sad that the projects he was planning will never come to fruition now - his garden, workbench, project truck. Such a great loss for the Dissident Right, and for those who enjoy brilliant minds. Godspeed, Chris. May you rest in blessed peace.
Only got to know you and listen to you recently, and it comes as more than a shock that you're gone. The world will make a bit less sense. Goodbye for now, Zman.
Completely agree that for a society to survive it needs to have the will to expel those who won't follow its rules and norms or seeks to subvert them. It also raises an important question about the value of retaining a society's political system if it doesn't permit the ability to act against those who are undermining the ability for it to retain its shape or defend itself.
Basically every Western 'democracy' is just a mechanism for the ruling elites - who are totally hostile to actually allowing the public to have their preferences acted on - to inflict policies without mass support and which are contrary to the interests of the historic peoples. All of the handwringing on the left about threats to "our democracy" is really just a dim recognition that a growing share of the public a) recognizes it's largely just a fig leaf, and b) that being the case, is perfectly fine with someone like Trump just ignoring the rules the left relies on to hamstring action.
A democratic republic was a fine idea, and for a time it functioned reasonably well. It doesn't any longer and there is no need for us to adhere to a system that has been twisted to the point it cannot serve our needs.
Rest in peace, Chris
Some gal on the main site called Melissa is saying she lives near by is confirming his death and thinks he may passed from a
Heat Stroke
Was wondering if he was pushing too hard out there.
RIP Zman. You will be missed. Thanks for everything.
We are all hoping the news is not true.
An enormous loss, and a shocker.

God no. Chris was a good man. He reached out to me repeatedly after a family tragedy, and offered words of encouragment.
This is just bad, bad, bad. I am crushed.

Pete Quinones confirms it too, sadly

Rest in Peace Chris and thank you for all that you did. Prayers for the family.

WTF? IS GOING ON!
Paul Ramsey is saying you’re dead. May want to clear that up if you’re not.
