Motown is a good example of how solutions to urban diversity sort of evolve without anyone thinking too much about it. Famously, Detroit went from one of the most prosperous cities on the planet to one of the most crime ridden and dysfunctional in a couple of generations. Ten years ago, the city filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy, which was the largest municipal bankruptcy in American history.
