Next up on the AFI top-100 list of films is what may be the most famous musical ever produced, The Sound of Music. When it was released in 1965 its broke box office records in nine countries. The soundtrack for the show sold twenty million copies in the first year and continued to break records for years to come. In the United States, the film was in theaters for over four years.
