One of the strange features of mainstream politics for a long time is that one side is mostly pens for hire, paid for by corporate interests and some oligarchs. The other side is mostly ideologues paid for by corporations and oligarchs. The people who write for conservative magazines mostly do it for the money. The people who write for left-wing magazines do it exclusively for the cause. They are believers.
