A couple of weeks back I compared the Ukraine project to a failing company, in that the people involved delude themselves about what is happening. Bad news is met with new schemes that promise to turn the tide. Optimism becomes a coping mechanism in order to avoid facing up to reality. In the case of Ukraine, it means that things inside the country may be much worse than anyone accepts.
