Imagine a scenario where an accused rapist avoided charges because he had a witness placing him at another location at the time of the crime. Twenty years later, new evidence, like DNA, reveals that he was at the scene of the crime, so the alibi witness must have been lying. The police present this to the witness who confesses to lying about seeing the suspect at another location. The police then charge the suspect with the crime based on this new evidence.
