Stupid People

A fairly good rule of life is that stupid people do things that harm others without benefitting themselves, often harming themselves. A criminal will harm others, like stealing property, but he does so because he thinks it benefits him. The guy who takes your money gets your money. This may lead to his arrest, but his primary interest is in benefitting himself, not harming you.

Stupid people, on the other hand, are not motivated in this way. They do things that defy easy explanation, because the motivations are unclear. The stupid person may take money from you without your consent, but they are not trying to harm you and they are not trying to benefit themselves. They may think they are doing you a favor in some way, perhaps hoping to use the money to help you.
