Emotivism is the claim that ethical statements do not contain facts, but instead express emotions toward a subject. When you say adultery is wrong, for example, you are not communicated facts about adultery or marriage. You are merely expressing your dislike of people who cheat on their spouse. The point of these statements is to encourage others to share the same emotional state toward the subject.
