When I was a teenager and first started working, one of the first things I learned was that you had to work the day before and the day after a holiday in order to be paid for the holiday. Salary men probably got paid even if they took off before or after, but I did not know any of them. In some cases, you did not get paid at all for holidays if you were a part-time worker or you were not scheduled to work on the holiday.
