When I was a kid, a staple of television news was the guy who was brought on to explain what was happening in the Soviet Union. Unknown to me at the time was that this person was usually an actor who could not find Russia on a map. Television experts are almost always the opposite of experts. I did not know that at the time, so I would accept their expertise at face value.
