One of the weird things that happens to you as you get older is the discovery of forgotten knowledge or maybe lost wisdom. There are things you grew up knowing, because you heard old people say them a million times, but you suddenly learn the younger generations are unaware of them. Maybe the right term here is a wisdom gap between the generations.
My first experience with this was about a dozen years ago when I was talked into hiring a summer intern from the local college. He was a third year college student looking for some practical experience to help with the job search when he graduated. He knew nothing useful, as far as I could tell, but that is to be expected. I figured a little bit of my time would help him learn a few useful things.
