If you look at the numbers on highway fatalities, it says that the roads are safer now than at any time since the widespread adoption of the motor vehicle. On a per capita basis, deaths are down to where they were in the 1920's. Getting data on non-fatal accidents is not easy for some reason. That seems like something the insurance companies would want, but maybe they use their own data.
