An underappreciated aspect of managerialism is the power of narrative to supplant reality within the managerial elite. A story forms up about how things will develop, and it is just assumed that it will inevitably happen as the narrative predicts. Just as the fanatic sees only that which confirms his fanaticism, the managerial elite see only that which confirms their preferred narratives.
