Since I was a kid, I have enjoyed the college football bowl season, even as it got polluted with increasingly ridiculous bowl games. In the early days, the bowl games were civic affairs sponsored by cities looking to boost tourism. They were named after something unique about the natural environment or culture. They invited two prominent college teams to play an exhibition, before which was a big parade.
