One of the strange aspects of managerialism, whether it is in government, politics, the private sector, or the academy, is that managers can reach a point when failure is no longer a disqualifying result. In fact, objective failure is subjectively viewed positively in many cases, as the goal, no matter how absurd, is looked up with great favor by the managerial elite, so the effort is all that matters.
