When I was a kid, not even a teenager, I read the novel To Kill A Mockingbird and enjoyed it very much. I was too young to appreciate the book in the larger context of the cultural revolution of which the book was a part. I did find it odd that my schoolteacher at the time was over the moon when she saw I had the book. Later on, I would understand why she was so thrilled to see me reading it.
